Reglan is a prescription neuroleptic medication that is used to treat gastrointestinal problems, but there have been many cases of Tardive Dyskinesia caused by the drug.
Reglan is supposed to assist with the passage of food through the gastrointestinal tract by increasing stomach and small intestine contractions. The drug, however, has been linked to the potentially permanent muscle disorder Tardive Dyskinesia. Characterized by repetitive, involuntary, and purposeless tics and spasms, the term tardive dyskinesia was introduced in 1964. Tardive means a slow or belated onset, and dyskineesia refers to an involuntary movement.
The disorder can also cause involuntary grimacing, tongue movement, lip smacking, puckering of the lips, rapid eye movement, and rapid movement of the extremities.
The FDA issued a black box warning for the prescription drug Reglan because of this serious side effect.
If you have suffered injuries caused by the gastrointestinal drug Reglan, you may be able to pursue legal action against the manufacturer. For more information contact the Reglan lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187 today.
