A judge in New Jersey is calling for a statewide consolidation of all Reglan tardive dyskinesia lawsuits.
Essex County superior court Judge Eugene J. Codey, Jr. filed a request with the administrative director of the courts of New Jersey to centralize all lawsuits filed against the makers of the drug Reglan, which involve claims that the medication causes a rare movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia. There is an unusual amount of lawsuits dealing with Reglan in New Jersey because Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the drug’s manufacturer, is headquartered in the state.
Judge Codey wrote that there may be a flood of new cases involving the gastrointestinal drug. “cases have started coming to Essex on a weekly basis,” Codey wrote in his consolidation request.
Acting Administrative Director of the Courts in New Jersey, Glenn A. Grant, has issued a notice to the state bar indicating that they have until May 14, to comment on or object to the application for consolidation.
