New studies have been released in the United States this week regarding the consumption timing of several medications. The research reveals that the time you take your medication may play a large role on it’s impact in your body.
When heartburn medication is prescribed, the directions to take the pills approximately 30 minutes before your first meal of the day are usually accompanied with the medicine. But, a study conducted at the University of Kansas says otherwise. The study shows that the most effective time to take the proton-pump inhibitors is actually in the evening.
The results indicated that 70 percent of the participants found relief from their heartburn symptoms if they took their medication in the late afternoon or evening, as compared to only 42 percent of people who took their medication in the morning. The researchers determined that the optimal time to take the heartburn medicine would be right before the last meal of the evening, so that the medication can work overnight as well.
