According to a Louisiana mother, the drug Reglan was responsible for birth defects in her child.
The mother has filed a suit against the manufacturer of the drug, Pliva, Inc. She complained of nausea and vomiting to her doctor, who prescribed Reglan during her seventh week of pregnancy. She took the medicine for roughly four weeks. Around week 32, she complained to her doctor, which was followed by the birth of her son in week 36. The premature birth led to numerous complications that baffled medical staff.
The suit complaint includes charges of multiple emotional complications, permanent disabilities, medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial deficiencies.
The woman claimed that she was unaware of problems with the medication until she saw an advertisement including the side-effects on the television. The medication is not supposed to be prescribed for pregnant mothers, and has been given the Food & Drug Administration’s strongest warning label due to multiple reports of adverse effects.
If you too have been affected by Reglan, you may be entitled to compensation for your suffering. Contact the Reglan side effect attorneys of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today to discuss your claim and possible options.

With reports of Reglan-related tardive dyskinesia coming to the forefront of numerous lawsuits, it appears that the disorder can affect any number of users along possible demographic lines.
The medication was used beyond its guidelines, originally establishing a three-month period in which the drug could be used before complications could set in. As a result, Reglan accounts for the primary cause of tardive dyskinesia in the United States of America today. Following studies and lawsuits, the Food & Drug Administration put a warning on the drug, noting its connection to tardive dyskinesia.
Although studies have proven that elderly and female patients are more likely to develop the disorder after using the drug, new concerns have brought to light the presence of the drug-related disorder in infants, as well as less talked about cases in otherwise healthy adults. When an adult in their prime develops tardive dyskinesia, the disorder can move from small uncontrollable movements to worsened jerks and spasms. In some industries, the problems associated with this disorder can cause employees to lose their jobs, compromising their livelihoods.
If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with tardive dyskinesia after a treatment that included Reglan, you may be eligible for compensation. Contact the Reglan lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.

The U.S Supreme Court discussed generic Reglan with the Obama Administration this week. Generic drug manufacturers argue that the federal law covers them from state lawsuits.
This request comes from an appeal that generic drug manufacturers filed claiming that they are immune from any state lawsuits. Reglan was approved by the FDA for short term use but was issued with a black box warning, the highest warning level because the drug and its generic forms have been linked to tardive dyskinesia.
Now generic manufacturers are appealing an Eight Circuit Court decision that drug manufacturers are responsible for changing the labels on products when safety information becomes available despite the fact that the FDA has to approve the labels.

Heartburn is a common problem among many people. It occurs when the LES, located between the stomach and the esophagus, becomes weakened and allows stomach acid to splash back into the throat.
Decrease your risk of heartburn by taking some precautionary steps:
- Avoid foods that trigger your heartburn. Many people experience heartburn after eating citrus, tomatoes, spicy foods, caffeine, mints, and chocolate.
- Allow at least two hours between eating and laying down
- If you are overweight, change your eating habits and introduce exercise into your daily routine
- Avoid nicotine and alcohol
By taking preventative steps, you may be able to keep your heartburn under control.
Unfortunately, some people who experience heartburn have been prescribed Reglan, a drug designed to treat chronic heartburn, that can cause much more serious medical conditions. To learn more about your rights and legal options after taking Reglan, contact the Reglan lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher today at 800-761-3187.

Following an April case, fears are amounting over use of generic forms of Reglan. Although Federal law requires generic brands to follow a similar warning label and to report cases of negative reactions, many are concerned that these standards are less enforceable in a wider market.
These fears compound with new healthcare reforms, which will make prescription pharmaceuticals more affordable, and therefore available, for patients. In the April case, the plaintiff’s suit against Wyeth and Schwartz, the corporations responsible for Reglan’s production, failed to provide prior authority that could hold a original manufacturer responsible for similar generic drugs.
With less enforcement from the FDA over generic brands, and a possible explosion in the market, some fear that Reglan poses to endanger a new, greater population in the near future.

Researchers are growing concerned about the rise of Reglan side effects in newborns due to the increased prescription of the drug to premature infants.
Reglan, a drug that treats acid reflux, was never approved for infants and was only recommended for short term use by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Last year, the FDA issued a black-box warning to inform physicians and the public of the link between Reglan and serious movement disorders like tardive diskinesia.
The rising use of the drug among newborns has many researchers worried that new side effects and previously unknown health concerns will appear. “Because Reglan has been on the market for over thirty years, many physicians assume the drug is safe and prescribe it for various off-label uses,” said Scott Nabers, a health advocate.

The time limit to file a lawsuit against Reglan for negative side effects may end as early as next year for some patients. On February 26, 2009, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) required a black box warning to be issued on all Reglan packaging. This date marks the beginning of the statute of limitations period.
Some states have a statute of limitations as short as two years for a personal injury lawsuit, meaning that for some, the period to initiate a claim will end in February 2011. While the statute of limitations may be able to be extended in some cases, patients are encouraged to speak with their doctors and a Reglan lawsuit lawyer as soon as they begin to suspect Reglan of causing side effects and injuries.

In order to speed up litigation a New Jersey judge is calling for Reglan lawsuits to become a class action suit, a statewide consolidation of all suits dealing with Reglan and they neurological side effects.
The primary defendant in the case, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, is the manufacturer of the product and it is centralized in New Jersey.
This move to one large class action suit is based upon the large number of people who have filed Reglan suits and the judge’s belief that they will continue to grow. Side effects of Reglan claimed in the lawsuits include tardive dyskinesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

Consumer advocates have questioned the long-term effects of the gastrointestinal drug Reglan, especially when prescribed to infants and children. While the drug has been approved for adult use, the effect it may have on young children is not yet known and some fear it may cause lasting damage. While studies continue to be conducted, consumers are warned not to give their child the drug for longer than the doctor-recommended time period.

A judge in New Jersey is calling for a statewide consolidation of all Reglan tardive dyskinesia lawsuits.
Essex County superior court Judge Eugene J. Codey, Jr. filed a request with the administrative director of the courts of New Jersey to centralize all lawsuits filed against the makers of the drug Reglan, which involve claims that the medication causes a rare movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia. There is an unusual amount of lawsuits dealing with Reglan in New Jersey because Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the drug’s manufacturer, is headquartered in the state.
Judge Codey wrote that there may be a flood of new cases involving the gastrointestinal drug. “cases have started coming to Essex on a weekly basis,” Codey wrote in his consolidation request.
Acting Administrative Director of the Courts in New Jersey, Glenn A. Grant, has issued a notice to the state bar indicating that they have until May 14, to comment on or object to the application for consolidation.
