Reglan and Children
Reglan, a prescription drug used to treat nausea and vomiting, has been prescribed to some 2 million Americans, including children and expecting mothers. It is administered as pills, injections, and solutions, and has been shown to reduce chronic nausea stemming from a wide array of medical conditions.
Unfortunately, Reglan has been linked to a wide variety of serious, potentially permanent side effects, including tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder in which a sufferer experiences repetitive involuntary muscle spasms. These side effects are especially severe in young children. A child with tardive dyskinesia may uncontrollably grimace, smack his or her lips, blink rapidly, and stick his or her tongue out at random. Worst of all, tardive dyskinesia can be permanent and incurable.
These terrible symptoms are especially tragic when they occur in children and infants. Reglan was prescribed to young children to treat a variety of ailments, and has sadly left many with debilitating conditions which could affect them for the rest of their lives. If your child has been affected by Reglan, you deserve financial compensation. The Reglan lawyers of Williams Kherkher can help fight for your rights. Contact us today by calling 800-761-3187.
The Effects of Reglan on Children
Children and young adults are especially susceptible to the negative side effects of Reglan. According to studies, people who have taken the drug for longer than three months have a higher likelihood of developing tardive dyskinesia.
Especially worrying is the lack of warning many patients received in regards to the potential side-effects of Reglan. Many patients were not made aware that the drug could cause:
- Tardive dyskinesia
- Neuroletpic Malignant Syndrome (potentially fatal muscle rigidity)
- Akathisia (chronic restlessness)
- Cervical dystonia
- Parkinson’s Disease-related symptoms
Because of the seriousness of the side effects of Reglan use, the FDA now requires warnings to be printed on boxes of the medication. However, this comes too late for many children and infants who have already been injured by the drug.
